The expression n this portrait is blank, empty. Kind of insectile. So I gave him a caterpillar body and stuck him in a bottle, the bottle being his hermit crabbish protection from various hallucinatory predators who would enjoy tearing into his soft, green-goo filled unprotected body given half a chance. Living in a bottle, he is obviously alcoholic and quite distressed with his pitiful state.

BEFORE BREENING

This woman appeared vaguely upset about something. I wasn't sure what to do with her. I circled her on the easle for a couple of days, slamming my palm against my head, trying to jog something loose . Hostility was there, barely perceptible, moving her features ever so slightly, radiating powerfully out of her eyes. She was daring me! Bullying me! Telling me to take a walk mister, you can't paint on me! Lately I've been immersed in sesame street, thomas the train, elmo, bigbird and letters, numbers, blues clues and the cat in the hat. Recently, during one of my attempts to hurl brain waves at the stubborn painting, my 2.5 year old son appeared by my side, looking at the easel, singing "hey diddle diddle". I suddenly knew why she was angry! Because the little dog laughed!
