AFTER BREENING
I made the mistake of telling my mother that this subject looks kind of like her, and she's been fishing for this piece. But she's just going to have to wait, as Mrs. Breen and I just closed on a house Saturday and need all the money we can get to keep from losing it. Sorry, Mom! I'll paint you something for your birthday.
The text on this one says, 'Psycho Readings Don't Scare Scientists.' This is a play on Psychic Readings, a delightful con-game, unless you've been ripped off of your life savings. I've mixed up some Christian imagery and lucky symbols into the con. I gave the psychic my mom's eyes and dental configuration, and put some pseudo-tarot cards in her hand, showing Tower of Destruction which I have renamed, Hell. The crystal ball shows Jesus. The scientist, surrounded by chromosomes, holding a test-tube of DNA, is dubious about all the mumbo-jumbo. However, he has his own brand of mumbo-jumbo, as he states the creed of his religion,"Everything started from nothing!" Satan, in the bottom right hand corner asks, "Are you sure it's all nonsense?
